SUBC Appoint New Coach – Dustyn Butler

Sydney University is pleased to announce the appointment of Dustyn Butler to the position of Assistant Coach. Dustyn will work with our Head Coach Mark Prater primarily (but not exclusively) in the men’s development program taking responsibility for development of the U23 and U21 groups.

Dustyn recently moved to Australia initially for four years and comes from a period in the UK coaching at Thames Rowing Club. In the years 2009 – 2012 Dustyn served in a number of coaching roles on the South African national team with the women’s pair, men’s single and U23 lightweights with his final role being assistant coach to Paul Jackson for the South African Lightweight Four. That crews’ thrilling win in London was a highlight of the 2012 Olympic Regatta.

Dustyn and his partner Lauren Cloete have settled initially in Rozelle with Lauren taking up a role as a lawyer in the banking and finance industry with a major law firm in the city. Sydney University Boat Club believes Dustyn will bring a great experience in high performance rowing coupled with a broader view of other objectives of a rowing club and we look forward to working with him. Could we ask all members of SUBC and the wider rowing community to make him welcome to Sydney and to rowing in New South Wales and Australia.
