Volunteers from Sydney Uni rowing played a prominent role in ensuring the smooth running if the 2004 State Championships last weekend at Penrith. Held over two full days in temperatures up to 42C the regatta attracted large entries from schools and clubs across the state and from Queensland.
Leading the Syd Uni volunteer – at least in public- was our own multi-lingual commentator , John Boultbee. Unable to dazzle the Penrith crowd with his command of German, French and Spanish (as displayed at World Champs) John used his encylopedic knowldege of Australian rowing to enthrall the crowd.
In the tower Syd Uni volunteers, Anne Titterton, Jo Pollett, Shirley Stokes and Phil Titterton helped with judging and results processing while on the ground floor Iain MacDonald took control of the post race weigh-ins.
Out on the pontoon in the blazing sun a peeling Chris Noel co-ordinated the medals presentations.
All in all, a smoothly run regatta , thanks to David Evans and Christine Attenborough at NSWRA and their army of volunteers.
