Late last month SUBC held it’s Annual Dinner at the UNSW Boatshed where we currently row. On hand were about 50 rowers and alumni. Some relaxation of the “men only” rule was allowed for Ferg’s wife Sassi who was visiting him for the weekend from Melbourne.Notable attendees were our 1980’s Club Captain Rob Britt and 1990’s lightweight coach Simon Pennington. Our current captains Hamish Playfair and Nick Purnell awarded the annual cups for Most Improved Oarsman and Clubman of the Year.
This year Most Improved Rowers 2015 was Jake Bicknell. Jake won the NSW U21 Championship Single Scull and finished second in the U21 single at the national Championships. Jake was a member of the NSW Men’s Youth Eight which won the interstate regatta event by the huge margin of 6 seconds.Jake has been selected in the Australian U21 team to compete against New Zealand in the Trans Tasman in Sydney in early July and at Lake Karapiro in mid August.
Clubman of the Year 2915 was Will Raven. Will fulfills his role as senior coxen of SUBC diligently and puts a massive effort into assisting our coaches and rowers with their training and organisation. Will is always ready to assist with any organizational work around the club and is fully deserving his Clubman of the Year Award.
